This week, I want to talk to you about how we can sometimes struggle to find motivation, especially when our life changes, or throws us something unexpected that we were not prepared for.
Sometimes, we want to do something, but lack the motivation to do it. This is a very common struggle for many of us in our daily lives, whether a new situation is starting, an old situation is ending, or simply because the daily grind of life is wearing us down.
However, finding motivation still in these times is very important. But we often have to remind ourselves that motivation isn’t always something that comes naturally to people and usually requires them to make a conscious effort to cultivate and maintain it.
When you need motivation, just keep moving forward. Setting small, achievable goals and breaking larger tasks down into smaller, more manageable ones helps. In this way, you feel that you are accomplishing things, which then fuels your desire and motivation to do more.
Here are some examples:
- If you’re feeling unmotivated at work, find someone who is enthusiastic about doing their job and ask them for advice on how to stay motivated. Their positivity and encouragement may help inspire you to find motivation in your own work.
- Or if you want to exercise more or lose weight, set yourself a small goal at first to exercise for a short time and eat healthier things. By achieving smaller goals, you can build up more momentum and motivation to reach your larger goals in the end.
- Another example is to just try new things, whether that be in your work life or in your personal life, or taking up a new hobby, as trying something completely different can spark a new passion and reignite your inner motivation for new experiences.
Finally, don’t be afraid sometimes to try new things or mix things up. Any routine can lead to boredom, or lack of motivation. Step out of your comfort zone once in a while and try something different, whether a new hobby, a new routine, or a new creative outlet.
But please remember that motivation is always a long process and you also have to remember that it’s alright to have ups and downs, as long as you know that it’s very important to keep pushing yourself forward even if times get tough.
And remember also that my examples are very generalised and may not be applicable to every person’s situation. I have also focused on external factors, such as positive influences being necessary for motivation, rather than focusing on finding internal or intrinsic motivation.
So, this week, remember that we can sometimes struggle to find motivation, but do not give up and celebrate success, no matter how small it seems, then use it as a stepping stone towards larger goals to reignite motivation in both your personal and professional life!
