This week I want to talk to you about how there’s also a time to rest too.
Life can often feel like a never-ending cycle of work, responsibilities and deadlines. We often push ourselves to constantly be productive, or to achieve goals, always striving for more.
But in the midst of this hectic pace, it’s very important to remember that there is also a time to rest too. Rest is not a sign of weakness or laziness, but rather a necessary part of a healthy and balanced life.
Just like our bodies need sleep to recharge and repair, our minds and souls also need moments of rest to rejuvenate and replenish. So, don’t feel guilty for taking a break, whether it’s a short nap, a leisurely time to spend in nature, or taking a day off.
Remember, it’s not about how much you can accomplish in a day, but rather how well you can take care of yourself in life and maintain a sustainable pace in the long run. Here are some examples;
– A student, after working long hours on a project, decides to take a break and go for a walk in the park to clear their mind and get some fresh air, before returning to their work with a refreshed perspective.
– A busy parent, juggling work, household chores and taking care of children, finally decides to take a day off just for themselves and spends the day relaxing, reading a book, or just doing things that bring them joy, allowing themselves to recharge and come back to responsibilities with renewed energy.
– A retiree, who has always been active and on the go realises that they have been neglecting their need for rest. They start incorporating daily rest sessions into their routine, allowing themselves to slow down, relax and cultivate a sense of inner peace and calm in their golden years.
You must embrace times of rest and recharge and allow yourself to come back refreshed and ready to tackle challenges. Rest and self-care is essential for well-being and you must prioritise your own needs and take breaks when necessary.
So, always allow yourself time to rest in life, to do things that bring you joy and peace. It is in moments of rest that you find clarity, creativity and a renewed sense of purpose! Remember, rest is not a sign of weakness, but is part of a healthy life!
Dedicated to Ivor Hurst (my father-in-law) who sadly passed away over the weekend – he always enjoyed reading my ‘thoughts’ every week and discussing them with me later that day. He was someone from whom I learned a lot about life.
