This week I want to talk to you about how, if you think about it, when you look at the metaphorical half-filled glass, it is actually neither half empty or half full, as it is really completely full!
The phrase: “the glass is half empty or half full” is a classic saying used to encourage optimism and a positive outlook in a person. The glass is a visual representation of how there is always something to be grateful for, no matter what happens.
Imagine it’s your favourite drink in a cup, but it only has half of that drink inside. That cup is like your life – sometimes it feels empty or not full enough. But if you see it as full, even if there are things that feel missing to you, you will always feel better.
The other idea behind this phrase is that, rather than viewing things as either good or bad, or half empty or half full, we should try to step back to see and appreciate the many good and positive aspects of things that we actually have in life.
Even if things seem bleak and no matter what situations we find ourselves in, the saying: “the glass is half empty or half full” also implies that we should remember that there is alway some good to be found, if we just look long and hard enough at a situation.
That is why it was refreshing for me to once hear someone say that, when you think about it, the glass is really completely full, as the glass is actually half filled with water and half filled with air!
That is how we should see things. The glass is always ultimately completely full. This is because we can always choose to look at situations from a different perspective and find something to be grateful for in any given circumstance.
It is so important to take time like this to appreciate what we have, especially in difficult times. By focusing on positive circumstances or outcomes that can result from situations, we usually find new appreciations for things we thought of negatively before.
However, unfortunately, as we go about the daily grind of life, it can often be hard to always keep an optimistic point of view. It is not always easy to find something to be grateful for in difficult circumstances and it is very hard sometimes to see ahead.
So, this week, try to always find something to be thankful for, no matter how much or how little that you feel that you may have. If you look closely enough, your life can still be completely full!!
