This week I want to talk to you about how your motivation comes in phases, where you feel motivated sometimes, but you don’t feel very motivated at other times.
Do you ever find yourself fluctuating between moments of peak motivation and periods of lacklustre drive? You are not alone. Motivation is a fickle thing, often coming in waves that ebb and flow throughout our daily lives.
It’s important to remember that feeling unmotivated is a normal part of the human experience. When motivation is lacking, it’s crucial to remember that it’s alright to have off days. Instead of beating yourself up for not feeling motivated, try to embrace these moments as opportunities for rest and reflection.
Take a step back and reassess your goals and priorities. Maybe you need to set smaller, more attainable goals or adjust your expectations. Remember that motivation is not a constant state. It’s normal for it to come and go.
The key is to find ways to reignite that spark when it starts to dim. Surround yourself with positive influences, engage in activities that bring you joy and create a supportive environment to set yourself up for success.
An example of fluctuating motivation could be a student who is excited and motivated at the beginning of the school year, but starts to feel burnt out and unmotivated halfway through the term.
Or an employee who is passionate about their job and who may experience periods of high motivation when working on exciting projects, but who may lose motivation when faced with repetitive tasks or challenging deadlines.
Or a person who is training for a marathon, who may experience peaks of motivation after completing a long run, but then struggles to find motivation on days when they feel tired or sore.
Finally, remember also the impact of external factors on motivation levels, such as stress or personal issues, or the psychological factors or experiences that can also contribute to fluctuating motivation.
So, this week, if you find yourself in a motivation slump, don’t be too hard on yourself. Remember that this too shall pass and that you have the power to reignite that fire within you. Just keep pushing forward and remember also that your motivation is just around the corner.
