Today, I want to talk about why you should always let yourself try again, as we usually never get things right the first time we try something.Â
Have you ever noticed that if we fail just once at something, we convince ourselves weâre not good enough at it and so give up trying it again? If we do something that doesn’t quickly achieve what we want, we believe that this pathway is closed to us forever.Â
Yet the truth is simpler: any failure is simply information that just tells you that what you tried didnât work, and you can then use that information to later help you succeed. Remember, most people who succeed didnât get it right the first time, but refused to stop trying.Â
Trying again at something isnât a sign of weakness; itâs a sign of strength. In fact, itâs a sign of wisdom! Every attempt teaches us something new, so with each effort, and through that process, we gradually become stronger, smarter, and closer to our goal. Each attempt also builds confidence.Â
Here are some examples:Â â
- A task or project you do doesnât work out initially, but itâs from that failure that you learn what you need to do differently next time, so the next attempt you make will be better informed and stronger.Â
- You fail an exam. If you retake it, you then usually know which topics may need more attention the next time. If you study those areas and try again, youâre then much closer to passing than before.
- If a new business venture fails early on, you gain a better understanding of the market, your customers, your strengths, and your weaknesses, which means your second or subsequent attempts have advantages the first one didnât have.Â
However, you must realise that sometimes trying again actually only means youâre repeating the same mistakes. If you donât take time to reflect on what went wrong the first time, you just fail the same way again. The key to trying again is trying differently, not just trying more.Â
So today, remember that failure isnât the final chapter in your story; itâs just research. Youâre not starting over; youâre just starting again, better informed. So, let yourself try again!
