This week I want to talk to you about how memories can also motivate you, as they can also inspire and guide you towards goals. Memories are also reminders of what we have done and where we have been, which can then motivate us to where we want to go!
Memories are usually brought on by you experiencing sensory feelings, such as hearing, seeing, touching, tasting or smelling something. These memories can then often take you back to something in your past that you can then harness and use as motivation in your future.
For example, if you remember something that brings back fond memories to you, it makes you smile and feel good. Memories like this have the power to bring joy and happiness to us in difficult times, so remembering good times allows us to stay positive and motivated for the future.
Or if you think back to a time when you achieved something great, or overcame a difficult challenge in life, just remembering that feeling of accomplishment and pride can serve as a source of motivation to you, if you are faced with future obstacles or difficulties.
Here are some other examples:
- Imagine a moment from your childhood when you were playing with your siblings or friends in the park. During a tough time in your adult life, recalling that carefree memory can bring you a sense of joy and remind you of the love and support that surrounds you.
- If you reflect on a holiday where you felt completely at peace and relaxed, if the stress and grind of daily life is weighing you down, revisiting that memory can help you find the strength to face challenges again with a renewed sense of calm and perspective.
- Or if you are struggling with a difficult task or project, remembering a past success where you met or exceeded your or somebody else’s expectations can inspire and motivate you to push through current obstacles and achieve once again.
Remembering anything good previously like this is very powerful and can reignite motivation to keep pushing forward if you feel like giving up. But, unfortunately, not everybody has positive memories to draw upon for motivation, so even negative memories can still be used as motivation to do something differently sometimes.
So, this week, remember that memories can also motivate you and don’t underestimate the power of memories in your life to serve as your guiding light, your source of strength and, most importantly, your motivation to keep you pushing forward!
