This week, I want to talk about how you can’t wait for motivation, as if you don’t feel motivated to do something, you just need to get on with it, since your motivation may only kick in later when you are doing it. And the funny thing is, it usually does!
Have you ever felt stuck, demotivated, or just unmotivated to do something that you know you need to do? If this happens, always remember that you can’t wait for motivation to strike. Instead, you usually have to take action, or start moving forward first, even if not feeling inspired.
Unfortunately, sometimes, motivation only kicks in when you are actually doing something. You can therefore never underestimate the power of taking that first step, as you must always realise that it can lead to a chain reaction of productivity and positivity for you.
I have plenty of examples here:
– An unmotivated student, procrastinating on studying for an exam, decides to open their textbook and start reviewing it. As they start going through the material, they find themselves understanding it better and feeling more confident, leading to a boost in motivation to continue studying.
– An unmotivated runner decides to lace up their shoes and go for a run, even though they feel tired. As they start moving, they feel the endorphins kicking in and, before they know it, they have completed a great workout and feel motivated to continue training.
– An unmotivated writer facing a mental block, decides to sit down at their desk and start typing, even without a clear idea of what to write about. As they begin to type, ideas start flowing and they find themselves writing more and more, overcome with motivation to keep going.
– An unmotivated artist struggling creatively picks up their paintbrush and starts working on a blank canvas. As they start to paint, they find themselves getting lost in the process and soon they are completely immersed in their artwork, feeling motivated to create more.
– An unmotivated musician decides to sit down with their instrument and simply start playing, even though they don’t feel inspired. As they strum or play, they find themselves getting lost in the music and soon they are composing new melodies and lyrics, with a newfound sense of motivation.
My list could go on…
But remember, some people may be dealing with deep-rooted issues of motivation, or may not find these examples relevant to their own struggles. There may also be underlying reasons why someone may be feeling stuck or demotivated sometimes.
So this week, don’t sit around waiting for a magical spark to ignite your creativity or drive. Just get started on something – anything – and you may find that the motivation that you were initially looking for, then actually follows; so, just take the first step, even if feeling unmotivated!
